Fabric Diet Fail

This year I didn't make it very far without buying fabric. I tell myself every year that I won't buy fabric I don't need. Then, I go in search of backing fabric and come home with more than backing fabric. This time, it was a trip to Spring Water Designs. The four, 1-yard cuts in the foreground were fabrics on the discount shelf. I have no plan for these fabrics but they were just too good to leave behind. I also grabbed a cone of Omni for the long arm. Omni is a great thread and one of my favorites for the long arm.
The goal of the trip, was backing fabric for my recently finished Charming Tapestry quilt top. At least I managed to get what I went for.
I also went through their scrap bin. This is one of my favorite things about the shop. I swear, if shops filled a quart-size plastic bag with scraps and slapped a price on it, I would buy it every time. I don't need more scraps but it is nice to add some variety to the mix now and again.

Charity Quilting

Fun half-square triangle quilt pieced by Joan V. I used a fan motif for the quilting.
Another scrappy bricks quilt. I had a pieced backing, so I added a border to make this one a little bigger. I used the fan motif to quilt this one, too.

Both quilts will be headed to Annapolis Quilts for Kids.

Square-in-square blocks combined with some alternate blocks make an effective quilt.
Another scrappy bricks quilt. This time, I made 12.5" by 12.5" blocks.

Charming: Tapestry

I added the borders to my charming quilt. I really like how this one is turning out. Next, I need backing fabric so I can finish it up. Time to pick a new project.

Accuquilt Go! - This is the basic kit that I started with. The cutter, one die, and mat.
Accuquilt Ready. Set. Go! - New to Accuquilt and ready to jump into the Accuquilt Go! with both feet? This is the set for you. It includes the 8 Inch Qube and a strip cutter.
8 Inch Qube - Already have an Accuquilt Go! and just want to add to your collection of dies?

I made this fun, scrappy bricks quilt. I love how each of these is the same and so very different. These are 9.5" by 9.5" blocks made using 2" by 3.5" bricks. That's the smallest scrap I want to deal with.
Simple blocks for the win. I Took inspiration from the border fabrics to choose the squares. Such a fun finish.

Beautifully pieced by Mary V.
I think this is the last of the red, white, and blue quilts. I got so lucky finding coordinating borders.

Charming: Tapestry

Over the last week I've managed to sew the half-square triangle units together. I'm pleased with the layout. It is scrappy and not very controlled. If I had placed each half-square triangle I would have a completely different outcome. Maybe next time.
I cut the inner and out borders, and binding.
Nicely pressed binding ready for the quilt. Now to get the borders added so I can do some quilting.

I pieced this fun variation of the nine-patch block using 2.5" by 4.5" bricks. A 2.5" by 12.5" strip added to each lets you offset the nine-patches. Bordered with 3.5" strips for a great finish.
I'm almost done using up these leftover red, white, and blue strips. I really like this one.

I love how this odd blocks quilt turned out. The borders tie it all together.
This one I made using colors from the border print.
