Large Prints

Sometimes I have a really large print that can become a little quilt without much piecing. Cutting these fabrics into squares will give you squares that don't look much like the overall fabric. For those large prints, it is a good idea to use them like you would a panel. I had less than a yard of this print and it was a good candidate for this kind of quilt. I started by cutting my center to 30.5" by as long as the fabric I had available. In this case, I my center was cut to 30.5" by 31.5". I would rather cut this center piece at 30.5" by 36.6" but I worked with what I had.
Because the center was close to square, and I wanted a more rectangular quilt, I cut the top and bottom borders (3") wider than the side borders (1.5"). Adding wider borders is an easy and effective way to increase the size of your quilt top.
This meant that when I added the 3.5" borders, they framed the quilt nicely. Now, I just need a backing to get it quilted.

Crochet Crazy: Friday Finish!

It has been a while since I updated on my 6-Day Crochet Star blanket.
I ended the same way I started: with light gray. It's nice to finish something. I need to see what I have to make a scrappy version of this one. Some of the one's I've seen are simply stunning.

Quilts for Kids: April

21 quilts quilted and dropped off with Annapolis Quilts for Kids on Saturday.
7 quilt tops pieced also dropped off, or paired with backings.
I picked up 20 tops pieced by other members of Annapolis Quilts for Kids. I'll spend the next few weeks quilting them. I also grabbed some fabric to cut a couple more tops to sew. Working with Annapolis Quilts for Kids makes a difference.
