Quilt Kit Sewing

Part 3

Each block got set on point. These blocks measure 17.5" by 17.5".
Then the block sashing.
Then this happened. I'm not going to point it out. I'm just going to say it went into a quilt time out for about a day before I got back to work on it.
Internal borders done. Those little setting blocks are really nice.
Finished top with the wide outer border. I need more borders in my quilt life. I'm pretty pleased with how this one turned out. It's folded up and in the shop bag for the next time I go to the quilt shop so I can pick up backing fabric.

Cranky Socks

I've been cranking up socks for the holidays. This is one of the sock trains I made last week. Four socks knit one-right-after-the-other.
Two pair ready for finishing.
I love these little stacks of socks.
Monday I knit a single after work.
Thursday it found its partner.

I won't be adding more socks to my Etsy shop until 2021. I still have a few pairs ready to ship so order soon to get them by the holidays. Don't forget to follow me on Instagram (@beccascrazyprojects) and my Etsy shop Becca's Crazy Projects to get updates on what I'm doing and when listings go live.

Want more information about circular sock knitting machines, tools, and attachments? I recommend you head over to CSM Love. They have collected so many resources in one easy-to-use site. I used the site to find the Split Yarn Carrier by Chambord CSM

Odds and Ends

This week has been a week of things but not so much doing things. My Kickstarter copy of Dwellings of Eldervale came. It isn't like I'll be having any friends over soon so I have plenty of time to learn the rules.
I put the twelve blocks for my kit on the design wall. There will be so much piecing of sashing and cornerstones, and so on for this one. Full update next Monday.
And my copy of Escape Pod's year fifteen anthology(affiliate link) arrived. I actually bought two copies of this one so someone might be getting one for the winter holidays.

Deconstruction - Part 3

I measured the somewhat wonky quilt top and added a border. If you have many bias edges a border can stabilize the overall piece and ensure you have sides that match and aren't wavy. Trust me, it is worth the extra time.
I pulled this fun coordinating pink from my collection and made up the binding before I even loaded it onto the frame.
Ready to quilt!
I went with a teal thread on top and bobbin. Swirls, waves, and some wavy lines for an allover design.
These waves are one of my favorites.
The lighting on this is horrible but you can see the texture of the quilting.
Finished and ready for binding.

Quilt Kit Sewing

Many years ago I bought a quilt kit offered by Joanne Fabrics. It was a block of the month and I picked up the almost the entire kit at sale prices. I pulled it out of its hiding place and spend the next six days piecing a new block each day.

Block One

Block Two

Block Three

Block Four

Block Five

Block Six

I'll continue working through these until I have finished the quilt. It is nice to have something ready to piece on hand. Perhaps I should kit up some for myself using a couple favorite blocks. I should work on finishing some of the in-progress projects I already have going. Do you have projects that have been waiting years to be completed? Sewing weather is upon us in the norther hemisphere. Pull a couple out and try to work on them a little each day.

Deconstruction - Part 2

Monday I shared the beginnings of this quilt.

It isn't done yet but I did make progress. I pieced several more blocks for a total of 35 blocks. My goal is to make this a quilt suitable for a twin bed or as a throw quilt.

I played with the blocks and got them pieced together. I still need to add a border to stabilize those outer edges and unify the top. I'm really pleased with how it has turned out so far. So much movement!
Now all I have to do is sort out this mess of leftovers.

Skate Leash

I needed some nylon web to make a leash for my skates. I did a little poking around and didn't find a great tutorial but I did find enough to figure out what I needed.
Step one is to bring your skates to the project so you can make sure you know how long the webbing needs to be cut.
This is a really simple sew. You just need a loop on each end that will fit over the webbing.
I couldn't leave them plain so I grabbed this fun print from my collection and stitched it down.
Slip each of those loops over the front of each skate and you're ready to go!
Over the neck.
Or over one shoulder. Now I can hang them up on the coat hook in the hall.
